Mike Burke has always been a forward-thinker with an unstoppable drive. After earning his marketing degree from Western Carolina University in 1994, he began his career at Scott Clark Toyota. His natural talent for connecting with people quickly made him the dealership’s top salesman.
Despite his early success, Mike had a strong desire to create something of his own. He left Scott Clark to launch his first business, Innovations, a tint shop in Myrtle Beach. However, his longing for home brought him back to Charlotte, where he started a mobile tinting business called The Tint Man in 1997. Within two years, The Tint Man became the top window tint provider for car stereo and accessory shops across a 50-mile radius.
To meet growing demand, Mike founded Lightning Mike’s, a brick-and-mortar shop offering a wide range of aftermarket automotive services, including inspections, car audio/video systems, accessories, wheels, tires, and window tinting. Over six years, Lightning Mike’s grew into six locations, dominating the Charlotte market.
Building on his experience, Mike launched Sun Stoppers with a refined vision—focusing exclusively on film products. This boutique-style approach emphasized quality over quantity, prioritizing superior products and exceptional customer service.
Mike understood the importance of investing in his team. He structured his business to give employees significant autonomy in managing their stores, stepping into a mentorship role to unlock their potential. This empowerment became a cornerstone of Sun Stoppers’s success.
Mike expanded Sun Stoppers through a partnership model, growing the brand across the Southeast, including North and South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, and Massachusetts, with ambitions to eventually reach all 50 states.
Mike’s entrepreneurial mindset and expertise earned him global recognition. He delivered a two-hour keynote speech to 500 XPEL dealers in Sanya, China, sharing his techniques for window tinting and paint protection. His Guinness World Record for window tinting, his dynamic energy, and his marketing expertise inspired dealers with actionable tools to grow their businesses.
Mike’s presentation in China, including his story of increased profitability after switching from Eastman Suntek to XPEL products, left a lasting impact on the Asian XPEL dealers. His insights motivated attendees to enhance their own operations.
Mike’s experience deepened his passion for engaging with the global window tinting and paint protection community. He has served as a judge for the International Window Film Tint-Off Competition and taught courses on marketing and sales strategies at the International Window Film Conference.
